MIDEL 7131 is a synthetic ester dielectric fluid (transformer fluid) that has been used in thousands of installations worldwide since the 1970s. It provides unrivalled fire safety, environmental protection, and improved asset performance.

Applications

• Power and distribution transformers up to approx. 433 kV
• Indoor and outdoor installation, including compact designs
• Transformers in areas with stringent fire and environmental protection requirements (e.g. industrial sites, infrastructure, power generation)
• Retrofill of existing mineral-oil transformers to improve safety and service life

Standards & Classifications

• Complies with IEC 61099 (synthetic organic esters for electrical purposes, type T1).
• Classified K3 (high fire point fluid) according to IEC 61039.
• Recognised by FM Global and UL as a fire-safe transformer fluid (manufacturer information).

Key features

• High fire safety: high fire point of approx. 316 °C (K3 classification), reducing the need for additional fire protection measures.
• Environmentally friendly: readily biodegradable ester fluid with very low environmental impact compared to mineral oil.
• Cold-temperature performance: very low pour point of approx. -56 °C, making it suitable for installations in cold climates.
• High moisture tolerance: can absorb significantly more water without reducing breakdown voltage, helping to extend the life of cellulose insulation.
• Excellent dielectric performance: high dielectric breakdown voltage and low dissipation factors for reliable insulation performance.
• Stable ester chemistry: very good oxidation stability, suitable for free-breathing and sealed transformers.
